The process begins by preparing a bath of liquid medium, traditionally made with carrageenan or gum tragacanth, which helps the pigments float and spread evenly. Drops of colorful pigments or ink are then carefully dripped onto the surface of the liquid, and the artist uses various tools, such as combs or brushes, to manipulate and swirl the colors into mesmerizing patterns.
Once the desired design is achieved, a sheet of paper is gently laid onto the surface of the liquid, allowing the colors to adhere to the paper's surface. The paper is then carefully lifted, revealing a unique and beautifully marbled pattern. Paper marbling has been used for centuries in bookbinding, decorative arts, and even as a form of artistic expression, and it continues to captivate and inspire artists and enthusiasts around the world with its endless possibilities and stunning results.
While keeping in mind what the original techniques are, creating the following marbled paper textures collection was done by Cristian Craita using modern day technology. More specifically, a tablet, a digital pen and a digital painting software.
